About SAEM
SAEM - Georgia Youth EcoMovement is a non-governmental, non-profit youth environmental organization uniting mostly schoolchildren and students under 30. At present SAEM involves more than 30 active and 50 associated members from different regions of Georgia.
Main aims of SAEM are: popularizing nature studies, enhancing environmental awareness and improving public participation.
SAEM organizes different kinds of activities such as: Seminars and training, informational campaigns and exhibitions.
Most popular activities of SAEM are: Annual exhibitions of children’s drawings on environmental problems; Informational campaigns on most important environmental problems – InfoBus; and summer study sessions for environmental activists.
Every year SAEM publishes wall calendar including children’s drawings from the exhibitions.
SAEM coordinated the Black Sea Day Project in Georgia in 1996. Since then an environmental NGOs in every Black Sea coastal countries are celebrating this day at 31st October by organizing environmental activities, such as: beach clean ups, public meetings and hearings, Ecolessons, exhibitions, etc.
At the beginning of 1997 SAEM started information campaign on Kolkheti Wetlands. At the end of August SAEM organized seminar “NGO Steps in Georgian National Environmental Action Plan” the aim of which was involvement of all parts of society in planning of Georgian state environmental policy.
SAEM is a full member of YEE – Youth and Environment Europe, of ANPED - Northern Alliance for Sustainability and CDNEE – Cooperation Development for Eastern Europe.
